Farmer's Note
30 years ago, I was working in a tea garden in Wuyi Mountain National Park to care for tea bushes and manually weed around them. I learned about organic farming, and eventually rock tea production techniques. Impressed by rock tea’s commercial success, a decade later I went back to my hometown in Jiling Village of Pucheng to start my own tea farming and production. My organic tea garden sits at 600 meter elevation, hidden deep inside of mountains, away from any commercial farming to guarantee no cross-contamination.
To access the lot where our Mei Zhan cultivar is grown, one must traverse a gently flowing river on a line of vibrant yellow rocks, shimmering under the dappled sunlight. We named this twice-charcoal-roasted oolong tea River Rock, to commemorate the sacred ritual of river passing that reminds me to stay present.
